The Call, the Tree and the Finished Yard

Calling starts the conversation about the tree and the work you need. You can explain the problem in ordinary words, without identifying the species or measuring the trunk. Say which tree concerns you and where it stands, then describe what is nearby. A tree at the back fence calls for a different access discussion than one beside an open driveway.

Describe the tree from a clear spot

Your description helps put the tree and its surroundings together. Share your town, address and whether the property is a home, rental or business. Against the house, mention branches touching the gutter or a trunk close to the wall. Over the driveway, explain whether a limb is hanging or lying on the pavement. Along a fence, say whether growth is tangled through the panels or blocking the gate.

For the back-yard shade tree, describe a thin crown, a visible hollow or a split you noticed from a distance. For a tree by the street, explain its position relative to the curb and sidewalk. You do not need to settle ownership or permit questions to begin the call. Your technician can discuss which permissions need attention before the work itself.

Your technician examines the job

The site assessment brings the tree's condition, nearby objects and equipment access into one plan. Your tree pro looks at the branches, trunk and working space, including buildings, fences and paving. A stump also brings the gate width, surrounding roots and intended use of the ground into the discussion. Explain whether you want space for lawn, planting or another project so the proposed finish matches that purpose.

Agree on the scope and cost

One of our local tree care partners sets out the work and its price for your approval before starting. The discussion includes which tree or limbs are involved, how the work will be carried out and what cleanup includes. Removal and stump grinding are separate items to address together if you want both. Ask whether logs or chips will stay, whether hauling is included and what the ground will look like afterward.

Keep clear while the work is arranged

Keep people, pets and vehicles away from a leaning tree, broken branch or damaged area. Photos are optional; take them only from a safe distance. Treat a downed or low wire as live, stay away and contact the electric utility serving your property or 911. Leave branches touching wires alone. You can describe the situation without walking closer to get a better look.

Finish with the agreed cleanup

The job ends with the debris handling and cleanup you approved. Your technician explains any remaining stump, chips or ground disturbance so you know what is left. If you wanted to keep wood, the agreed scope determines what stays and where. Discuss a remaining question about the cleared space while the finished work is being checked.

Call about the branch above your roof or the stump by your gate, and talk through the work from there.
